Climate-change lecture today

YOUNGSTOWN

Dr. Raymond Najjar, professor of oceanography at Pennsylvania State University, will give a Skype lecture, “What Climate Change Means for Ecosystems of the Northeast United States,” at 7 p.m. today in Cushwa Hall, room B100, on the campus of Youngstown State University.

Najjar earned his doctorate in atmospheric and oceanic sciences at Princeton University in 1990 and was then a postdoctoral fellow at the National Center for Atmospheric Research until 1993.

The speaker series is sponsored, in part, by the James Dale Ethics Center and Next Gen Climate Action.

The lecture is free and open to the public.

Sharon voter notice

SHARON, PA.

Musser Elementary School officials notified officials with the Mercer County Board of Elections that Sharon voters in precincts 4-1, 4-2 and 4-4 will no longer be able to use the Spruce Avenue entrance to access their polling location in the gym beginning Tuesday, Election Day, and beyond.

Voters should now go to the gym entrance on the north side of the building that faces Leslie Street to enter the poll. There will be signs indicating where voters should enter the facility, according to elections board officials.

STEM skate

AUSTINTOWN

Skate Zone, 5420 Mahoning Ave., will combine science, technology, engineering and math – STEM – with roller skating to help children learn and experience those concepts through STEM-related field trips. STEM lesson programs are designed by experts and certified teachers.

Free splash class

SALEM

Piranha Aquatics Swimming will offer a free splash class to all children of the community age 14 and younger from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Salem Community Center, 1098 N Ellsworth Ave.

The splash class, sponsored by State Street Tattoo, provides up to 40 children the opportunity to try out for the swim team for free.

Participants must be able to swim the length of the Salem Community Center pool unassisted and without flotation devices.

The clinic will be led by head coach Caroline McDermott and Kristen Reynolds, competitive team coach.

Advanced registration is required through the team’s website/Eventbrite. Immediately after the splash class there will be an information session for parents interested in learning more about the program.
