Scarborough out as Akron University president


AKRON — At its meeting today, University of Akron trustees and President Scott L. Scarborough, mutually agreed that Scarborough will step down as university president, effective today, according to a news release from the university.

The board and Scarborough determined that new leadership is needed for the university to move forward and achieve sustained success, according to the release. The board will conduct a search for a permanent president with the experience and qualities it believes are necessary to lead UA.

Jim Tressel, now president of Youngstown State University, was in the running for the Akron presidency about the same time he was vying for the YSU job.
