Special to The Vindicator : Several members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9571 and its auxiliary recently traveled to Washington, D.C., to place a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Solider at Arlington National Cemetery. The wreath was made by Carol Check, auxiliary secretary, and included white carnations; a single red rose, in remembrance of prisoners of war and those missing in action; red buddy poppies, the official memorial flower of the VFW; and a red ribbon streamer that displayed VFW 9571. Check was joined by John Craig and Ray Schafer, post adjutant and quartermaster, and Cathy Schafer, auxiliary president for the presentation. Post members Tom Check, Larry Truitt and Donna McDaniel also attended. Shown from left with the wreath are Ray and Cathy Schafer, Craig, and Carol and Tom Check.
