An operating-a-vehicle-while-impaired checkpoint Friday at 483 N. Canfield Niles Road resulted in several citations, arrests and summonses, including two felony arrests for drugs and a citation for littering after a driver purportedly threw a beer bottle out of a car window.

The Mahoning County OVI Task Force, in collaboration with the Ohio State Highway Patrol, conducted the checkpoint, assisted by other officers who conducted saturation patrols.

Enforcement activity associated with the checkpoint and saturation patrol was as follows: one felony arrest for possession of cocaine, one felony arrest for possession of heroin, one summons for drug abuse, two citations for open container, five summonses for driving under suspension, two seat-belt citations, one summons for driving without a license, one citation for driving with an expired license, one citation for speed and one citation for failure to transfer license plates.

Officers cited the driver who threw a bottle out the car window as the vehicle entered the checkpoint for littering. That driver was the one arrested and charged with possession of cocaine, reports said.

The law-enforcement agencies conducted the sobriety checkpoint and saturation patrol from 10:30 p.m. Friday to 2:30 a.m. Saturday.
