Topping-off ceremony Wednesday at Akron Children’s Hospital

BOARDMAN
Akron Children’s Hospital Mahoning Valley will mark a milestone in its construction project with a “topping-off” ceremony at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the parking lot next to Building A at the Beeghly campus, 6505 Market St.
The event recognizes the placement of steel as the next phase of construction for the hospital’s $18.6 million expansion of Building A on the Beeghly campus.
The beam will be signed by employees and those involved in the construction project. With the steel beams in place, the exterior walls will be installed this summer, and interior work will begin in the fall.
The hospital broke ground on the project last December. The two-story, 51,000-square-foot facility will add 47 exam rooms, including subspecialty and primary care, to better serve the community, according to a hospital news release.
Once complete, Akron Children’s Hospital Pediatrics-Boardman will relocate from Building C to Building A.
The project is expected to be completed in summer 2017.
Remarks at the ceremony will be provided by Bill Considine, president and CEO of Akron Children’s; Sharon Hrina, vice president of Akron Children’s Hospital Mahoning Valley; and Eric Harmon, construction manager, Murphy Construction.
