One arrest for cocaine possession at OVI checkpoint


AUSTINTOWN — One person was charged with possession of cocaine at an operating-a-vehicle-impaired checkpoint conducted by members of the Mahoning County OVI Task Force, in collaboration with the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

The checkpoint was at 483 N. Canfield-Niles Road from 10:30 p.m. Friday to 2:30 a.m. Saturday.

According to task force news release, there was a felony arrest for cocaine possession and a felony arrest for heroin possession.

A total of 920 vehicles passed through the checkpoint. There were 20 vehicles that were directed into the diversion area for further investigation. Officers on an accompanying saturation patrol conducted 33 traffic stops.

Enforcement activity associated with the checkpoint and saturation patrol was as follows: a summons for drug abuse, two citations for open-container violations, five summonses for driving under suspension, a summons for no valid driver's license, two citations for failure to use seat belts, one citation for speeding, a citation for failure to transfer license plates, and a citation for littering.
