East Side fire under investigation

YOUNGSTOWN — John Reiter, Youngstown Fire Department acting battalion chief, said a Saturday morning structure fire destroyed a building at 3064 McGuffey Road on the East Side.

“The fire station is just right down the street, and when [firefighters] arrived it was fully engulfed in fire,” he said. Firefighters arrived about 4 a.m., and the last unit left at 6 a.m.

Reiter said he believes the building was once a church but doesn’t know for sure. No one was inside the structure during the time of the fire. He said the fire is under investigation.
