Butler to show works by Bennett

Staff report

YOUNGSTOWN

An art exhibition by Tony Bennett and Charles Reid will open at the Butler Institute of American Art on July 9 and run through Sept. 11.

Titled “Tony Bennett and Charles Reid: Two Painters,” the exhibition will include 25 paintings between the two artists.

There will be no public reception for the exhibition, but the iconic singer and Reid are expected to come to the museum for an event with museum members. Reid is a renowned artist and teacher who is known for his watercolors.

Bennett, 89, is no stranger to the Butler. He already has had two exhibitions of his watercolor and oil landscapes at the museum: in 1994 (at the Trumbull Branch in Howland) and 2001.

His painting “Homage to Hockney” is on permanent display at the museum’s main location on Wick Avenue.

The smooth-voiced singer, incidentally, was one of the first concerts at Covelli Centre, having performed there the week it opened in 2005. At the time, the venue was known as Chevrolet Center.
