St. E’s behavioral health clinic is Tuesday

As part of Mental Health Month, Mercy Health–Behavioral Health Institute Outpatient Clinic at St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital will be open to the public from noon to 3 p.m. Tuesday.

Clinicians will provide depression screenings, carbon-monoxide testing for smokers, and an introduction to specialty services for those with mental-health disorders, including partial hospitalization, intensive outpatient services and tobacco treatment services.

The BHI Outpatient Clinic is on the seventh floor of St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital, 1044 Belmont Ave., and can be accessed from the “B” elevators.

According to Ohio Mental Health & Addiction Services, a mental illness is a condition that impacts a person’s thinking, feeling or mood and may affect his or her ability to relate to others and function on a daily basis.

In Ohio, more than 400,000 individuals received public community mental-health services during 2014.

Of that total, 154,000 had a diagnosis of either major depression or bipolar depression, and 35,000 were diagnosed with schizophrenia.
