The Poland library hosted a special Mother’s Day craft night on April 26.

Vikki Peck, a Poland librarian, showed the children who attended the event how to make a decorative candle for their mothers, or another special woman in their lives, for Mother’s Day. Peck supplied plain, white candles and the other materials needed to decorate the candle.

There were outlines that were related to Mother’s Day that the children could use to trace onto tissue paper or they could create their own designs. The children used markers and Sharpies to color in the outlines before they were put on the candle.

“Once the picture is ready, we’ll put some wax paper over the drawing and blow it with the hair dryer, it transfers onto the candle,” said Peck.

The heat from the hair dryer allowed the tissue paper with the design to melt onto the candle. The candle was big enough for the children to add multiple designs for decoration.

Decorating the candle was a simple way to make a unique and homemade gift for Mother’s Day. Small gift bags with tissue paper were provided for the children to put their candles in when they finished.
