Vindicator grand champion speller is out at Scripps National Spelling Bee

NATIONAL HARBOR, MD.

Ryan Staton, the Jackson-Milton eighth-grader and grand champion of the Vindicator 83rd Regional Spelling Bee, missed his first word today at the Scripps National Spelling Bee.

Ryan misspelled “ceraceous” in the first round of live spelling. Ceraceous is a medical term and means resembling wax.
