Rescue farm overwhelmed by 50 goats, seeks public’s help

METHUEN, Mass.

An animal-rescue farm in Massachusetts says it’s experiencing a goat overload – and it’s not kidding.

The MSPCA-Nevins Farm in Methuen recently received nearly 50 goats and is asking people to step forward and give them new homes.

The goats are an assortment of alpine, pygmy and angora mixes. They were turned over voluntarily by an owner in Montague who couldn’t handle the growing herd.

Some are nursing kids and pregnant does.

Nevins Farm barn manager Gia Barss says people who want to adopt the goats should have experience raising them and be willing to adopt more than one because goats are highly social.

Most of the goats tested positive for bacteria that cause intestinal upset and parasitic infections, but they’re expected to recover.

Watch where you sit: Baby opossum rescued from toilet

SAN DIEGO

The San Diego County Department of Animal Services says a baby opossum is doing well after being rescued from a toilet.

The soaking-wet little creature is seen in photos posted on the department’s Facebook page.

The agency says a Pacific Beach woman found the critter in her toilet May 1, and Animal Control Officer Carlos Wallis responded and took it to the San Diego Humane Society’s Project Wildlife.

It will be released when it is old enough to survive on its own.

A second opossum was found in the home later, along with a broken window that likely allowed the animals to enter.

Animal Services Deputy Director Dan DeSousa says both opossums are doing OK.

Michigan man charged after stripper paid with fake $100 bill

KOCHVILLE TOWNSHIP, Mich.

A Michigan man is facing charges after a stripper was paid with a counterfeit $100 bill after a lap dance.

Stephen Gidcumb is charged with intentionally passing counterfeit notes. Police tell The Detroit News that fake bills were mixed in with real $100 bills.

MLive.com reports the 32-year-old was arrested May 13 after returning to the strip club in Kochville Township, near Saginaw, later that day. Chief Assistant Saginaw County Prosecutor Christopher Boyd says club workers were “on the lookout” for Gidcumb.

Other fake bills were found at his Mount Morris home. Boyd says they were made on a computer.

Gidcumb faces a preliminary hearing Tuesday. He is being held on a $50,000 cash bond. The Associated Press left a message seeking a comment from his attorney.
