Trumbull County Safe Communities, in coordination with the Ohio State Highway Patrol and the Ohio Traffic Safety office, is announcing the Click It or Ticket campaign kickoff event, which will take place at 5:45 p.m. today at Eastwood Field.
The campaign runs through June 5.
Cafaro Foundation awards scholarships
YOUNGSTOWN
The Cafaro Foundation is awarding a record number of students a record amount in scholarships. The foundation is awarding $71,000 to 31 recipients. In 2015, the total scholarship amount was $67,000 for 28 individuals.
Foundation trustees selected the scholarship recipients based primarily on the students’ academic merit, while also considering their financial need and the recommendations of teachers and guidance counselors.
Catalytic converters stolen in Austintown
AUSTINTOWN
Five catalytic converters were stolen from cars Monday night. The thefts occurred on Mahoning Avenue, North Raccoon Road and Westchester Drive.
Detective Ron McComb said it seems too coincidental for five of the same incidents to happen on the same night and not be related. He will be contacting surrounding communities to determine if the crime is happening elsewhere or just isolated to Austintown.
Mathews school board schedules meeting
VIENNA
The Mathews school board has scheduled a special meeting at 6:45 p.m. today in the high-school cafeteria, 4429 Warren-Sharon Road, to take action on personnel and any other matters.
Culvert replacement planned in Howland
HOWLAND
Commonwealth Avenue, between Larchmont Avenue and North River Road, will be closed today and Thursday for culvert replacement being performed by Foust Construction Inc., the Trumbull County Engineer’s office said. The recommended detour route is north on Larchmont and east on North River Road.
