Police reports said a man admitted firing a gun from a car early Sunday morning on the North Side.

Casimier Mitchell, 19, of Wick Oval, was booked into the Mahoning County jail early Sunday morning on a charge of improper handling of a firearm in a motor vehicle.

Judge Elizabeth Kobly set his bond at $7,500 Monday at his arraignment in municipal court.

Mitchell is listed as a redshirt freshman linebacker on the Youngstown State University football team.

His bio on the team’s website said he is a native of Shaker Heights, a Cleveland suburb.

Reports said a YSU police officer was parked about 2:53 a.m. in the drive of the Wick Avenue parking deck when he heard three shots, then saw a car speed up Wick Avenue with three men inside laughing. The officer then followed the car to the Wick Oval and interviewed all three men.

Reports said Mitchell, the back-seat passenger, said he did not hear any gunshots but did say there was a gun in the trunk.

Inside the trunk the officer found a loaded .380-caliber semiautomatic pistol plus a magazine of ammunition that had an empty shell casing inside, reports said.

Reports said as the officer was checking the car, Mitchell admitted firing the gun.

He was then taken to jail.
