Hubbard Township mourns trustee

Staff report

HUBBARD

Township Trustee Joseph Gleydura Jr. died Sunday at 76.

In addition to serving 25 years as a trustee, Gleydura was a founding member of the Eagle Joint Fire District and a trustee for Hubbard Union Cemetery.

Born in Hubbard, Gleydura was a Navy veteran who served in the nuclear submarine division.

He is survived by his wife, son, daughter, granddaughter, two brothers and two sisters.

Township fiscal officer Sue Ann Goterba said the township is indebted to Gleydura for his service.

She noted his contributions included negotiating union contracts every year.

“He was a great negotiator,” Goterba said. “We never paid an attorney for that.”

She described Gleydura as vigilant about the township’s finances, though generous as a person.

“My kids called him Uncle Joe,” Goterba said. “That tells you everything you need to know about him.”

Services will take place at 7 p.m. Thursday at Stewart-Kyle Funeral Home, where calling hours will take place from 4 to 7 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Valley.

Township officials announced Monday that the flag outside the administration building will fly at half-staff in Gleydura’s honor.
