Former township trustee challenges Jim Davis to a tipping showdown

Township Trustee Jim Davis and former Trustee Lisa Oles will battle to see who can collect the most tips Wednesday at Buffalo Wild Wings in the Austintown Plaza, 6000 Mahoning Ave.

All tips from 6 to 9 p.m. will benefit Austintown Night Out, the local National Night Out event set for Aug. 2.

Davis said both the benefit and Austintown Night Out serve as educational forums to teach residents about safety.

“It’s a fun way to bring awareness to crime prevention in the community,” Davis said. “It’s also a way get the community to interact with law enforcement in a positive way.”

Oles said she is happy to come back to help raise money for the Austintown community.

“I think it’s [Austintown Night Out] a wonderful program and it brings neighborhoods together and everyone gets an opportunity to watch out for each other,” Oles said. “It’s nice because neighbors get together and get to know each other a little bit.”

Oles said she looks forward to getting more tips than Davis.

This year’s Night Out event is set for Aug. 2 at Austintown Township Park and will include emergency vehicles for children to explore, bounce houses, face painting and more. The event is free and open to the public.
