Boardman trustees finalize selling old fire station
BOARDMAN
Township trustees approved selling the old township fire station on U.S. Route 224, roughly two acres, for $1.2 million to Aspen Hill Partners LLC.
The purchase approved Monday night is a part of a larger project to create a new township fire station and to replace the nearly century-old building.
The money from the purchase of the old property will go to the estimated $3.5 million cost for the new building, said township Administrator Jason Loree. With the purchase of the old property, the township can move forward with its next phase of having the land surveyed for the new station.
The school district also is involved in the fire station arrangement.
Boardman Township and school district officials announced their plan for a property swap on April 27. The agreement is to trade the township a two-acre parcel adjacent to Center Middle School that used to be a stadium on Market Street for a four-acre parcel off Tod Avenue that now houses a township cold-storage facility.
The township will test the property to ensure it can be used to build their new station, Loree said.
Trustees approved agreements for the property trade proposal between the township and district to conduct site testing. The school board has passed a similar agreement.
