A memorial celebrating the work of Jim Meese, a talented pianist and composer before his feet could touch the family piano’s pedals, will take place today at Magic Tree Pub and Eatery, 7463 South Ave., Boardman. He recently died unexpectedly.
Friends, former classmates from Dana School of Music, and former band members who had worked with Meese, will celebrate his life and music a by performing many of his original compositions. Doors will open at 4 p.m.; performances begin at 4:30. Selections from his CD “Listen,” recorded in 2005, will be featured, and other selections from the CD “Cinema,” written by Meese and Bob Welsh, also will be played. The event is free and open to the public, but donations are welcome. For information, contact the Magic Tree at 330-629-2667.
Cleanup in Howland
WARREN
Representatives from the Trumbull County engineer’s office, commissioners office, Howland Township and Warren will assist seniors from Howland High School Monday in the cleanup of the Golden Triangle area of Howland and Warren.
Workers will meet at 9:30 a.m. at Primetals, 250 Dietz Road, to begin the cleanup, which will involve removing litter and debris along the main roads. It is part of a “Day of Service,” in which Howland seniors will volunteer at the Howland Township Park, Bolindale Food Pantry, Howland Senior Center and Children’s Rehabilitation Center of Warren.
Swim classes

Registration is underway for the American Red Cross Lake to River Chapter/Warren City Schools learn-to-swim program at the Warren G. Harding High School pool. Classes, offered for children age 3 through 12, begin June 13. Children need not attend Warren schools to participate.
Registration forms may be downloaded from Warren City Schools’ website at www.warrenschools.k12.oh.us/. Cost per student per session, consisting of eight classes, is $35, with an early registration savings of $5. Paid registration is requested before the first day of class.
