Police say a Columbus man has died after he crashed on a freeway and began driving in the wrong direction until he hit a tractor trailer head on.

One other person in the car was critically injured.

Columbus police identified the driver who died as 39-year-old Raymond Williams.

Officers say he lost control of his Chevrolet Venture on Interstate 71 just before 11 p.m. Friday and struck a concrete wall on the left side of the southbound lanes.

He then drove northbound in the southbound lanes without headlights.

Officials say the tractor trailer driven by 62-year-old Steven Harriman struck the vehicle head-on, and both the driver and his passenger were ejected from the car.

The cause of accident is being investigated.
