A woman mauled by her dog Thursday afternoon on the North Side will be hospitalized at least a month and will require several surgeries, says Dave Nelson of the Mahoning County Dog Warden’s Office.

Nelson, who is investigating the mauling Thursday in the 3200 block of Dearborn Avenue, said he visited the victim at St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital on Friday, and she has wounds all over her body. The dog, a 3-year-old pit bull named Jax, is in the custody of the dog warden for the next 10 days in quarantine.

The dog is expected to be designated as vicious after the quarantine.

Nelson said the dog was adopted a year ago and came from a dog-training center in Girard.

Man stabbed in chest

WARREN

A city man, 55, suffered a severe cut of his chest while talking to a man about a debt at the corner of Belvedere Avenue and Crosby Street Southeast at 9 p.m. Thursday.

The man said he was a passenger in a car. His nephew pulled over at the intersection so the victim could speak with a man known as “Wizard” about money “Wizard” owed. According to a police report, “Wizard” came around to the victim’s side of the car, pulled out a double-edged knife and stabbed him in the right side of his chest.

The victim grabbed for the knife and also cut his hand, he said. The driver left and took the victim to ValleyCare Trumbull Memorial Hospital for treatment.
