Tiffany South redevelopment plan moves forward

BOARDMAN

A plan to redevelop a plaza at Tiffany South and U.S. Route 224 now can move forward after approval from the township zoning appeals board this week.

Area developer Charles Whitman, of CTW Development, has plans to tear down the building that currently houses a Dunkin’ Donuts, Subway and Papa John’s Pizza, among other tenants, and build two new structures, the township zoning office confirmed.

The plan will add a stand-alone Dunkin’ Donuts to the front of the property, as well as a plaza to house the majority of the same tenants that currently occupy the building.

The proposal required the developer to get a variance from the zoning office so more than one building could be developed on the property. The zoning appeals board approved that request.

“We’re happy to see redevelopment. We’re starting to see a lot of redevelopment in that area of Boardman,” deputy zoning inspector Marilyn Kenner previously told The Vindicator. “It’s pretty much the gateway to our township. We’re very happy to work with Mr. Whitman.”

Whitman did not respond to requests for comment.

In other zoning news, the appeals board rejected a proposal that would have brought a drug-addiction treatment center to a property at 5600 Market St.

Kenner said the unanimous board decision was because the property is close to a school and a gymnastics center, and there was some concern about treatment-center clients having access to areas occupied by children.
