Big band plans fundraiser show
Boardman
First Class Big Band will sponsor a fundraiser concert from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. Monday at Los Gallos Mexican restaurant, Boardman-Canfield Road, to benefit the Tony Leonardi Jazz Scholarship, Youngstown State University Foundation.
First Class Big Band is a 17-piece jazz/swing orchestra founded in 1992 by Doug James of Boardman. It will play music from Glenn Miller, Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Tommy Dorsey, Artie Shaw, Woody Herman, Stan Kenton, Benny Goodman and Billy May.
James is an alumni of the Dana School of Music at YSU, a long-time music educator in Youngstown City Schools and is director of the Youngstown City Schools Faculty/Student Jazz Band. He performed on the road with the Glenn Miller Orchestra in 1998-99.
