The CW fall lineup includes “Supergirl“

NEW YORK

“Supergirl” flies from CBS to The CW network’s supernatural-heavy lineup on Mondays this fall, when the network also will premiere a romantic comedy about an impending apocalypse and a drama where a young detective hears the voice of her long-dead dad.

CW executives were approached recently about taking “Supergirl” when CBS decided not to renew the series starring Melissa Benoist. The CW, which already airs three other series based on DC Comics characters and two others produced by Greg Berlanti, is “where it should have been in the first place,” Mark Pedowitz, CW president, said Thursday.

He said he doesn’t expect major changes in the series with the move, although the extent of actress Calista Flockhart’s participation in the second season is unknown.

The show will be paired with “Jane the Virgin” on The CW’s schedule. “My Crazy Ex-Girlfriend,” which won critical plaudits but not too many viewers, moves to Fridays.

The new series “No Tomorrow” gets a coveted Tuesday time slot after The CW’s most popular show, “The Flash,” a particular favorite of women. “No Tomorrow” is about a young woman whose life is energized by a guy trying to accomplish as much as he can before an asteroid crashes into the Earth.

The new series “Frequency,” to air on Wednesdays, is about a young woman “reconnecting” with the mysterious voice of a father believed killed when she was 8 years old.

The CW promises one other new series, “Riverdale,” based on the old “Archie” and “Jughead” comic books. The midseason series is described as a more adult version of the comic, where Riverdale “may look like a quiet, sleepy town, but there are dangers in the shadows.”

Pedowitz also promised The CW will air a crossover event with the DC Comics characters on different shows in December.

Mindful of a young audience’s impatience with reruns, The CW is holding returning series “iZombie,” “The 100,” “Reign” and “The Originals” for later use.
