Hill, Desantis break district records

Hubbard’s George Hill and Cardinal Mooney’s Autumn Desantis set new records at the D-II District track meet.
During the preliminaries for the 200m dash, Hill set a new district record with a time of 22.20. The record was previously shared by Niles’ Darius Harris (‘12) and Streetsboro’s Dakari Carter (‘14) with 22.30. Desantis set a new stadium record in the high jump at 5-04. She breaks Maplewood’s Jordan Moxley (‘10) mark of 5-08.
Mikovich, Castiglione earn NFCA honors
YOUNGSTOWN
Youngstown State sophomore Cali Mikovich and senior Miranda Castiglione have been named named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association Midwest All-Region Team.
Castiglione is the first YSU player to earn all-region accolades twice. She was named to the second-team in 2014.
Mikovich, a All-Horizon League First-Team selection, was named to the second-team as an outfielder and batted .398 with 13 home runs, 52 runs scored, 10 doubles, 14 stolen bases and a .688 slugging percentage. Her 13 home runs set the Youngstown State single-season record.
She led the Horizon League with 70 hits and ranked second in home runs and third in batting average.
YSU qualifies 6 for NCAA East prelims
YOUNGSTOWN
The Youngstown State track and field squad qualified six athletes to compete at the NCAA East Preliminary competition May 26-28 in Jacksonville, Fla.
They are Leighton Antonio, Chad Zallow, Arnaldo Morales, Ryan Booth, Conner Neu and Jaynee Corbett.
Neu is the top qualifier for the Penguins, ranking fourth in the hammer throw.
Zallow qualified 22nd in the 110m hurdles with a time of 13.92 seconds. Antonio qualified 42nd in the 100m dash with a time of 10.47 seconds.
In the high jump, Morales, a three-time Horizon League champion, qualified 22nd clearing a height of 2.15m. Booth qualified 33rd in the shot put with a throw of 17.54m,
Corbett qualified 25th in the shout put at 15.60m.
Valpo’s Lundeen shuts down YSU baseball
Valparaiso
Valparaiso senior Dalton Lundeen pitched a four-hit shutout in the final home start of his career to send the Crusaders to a 4-0 victory over the Youngstown State baseball team on Thursday at Emory G. Bauer Field.
Trey Bridis went 2-for-3 to lead the Penguins offensively, and Alex Larivee and Andrew Kendrick added singles. Lundeen did not walk or hit a batter, and he struck out just one.
Jeremy Quinlan surrendered two earned runs on five hits and five walks over six innings, and Joel Hake allowed the unearned run in the seventh.
The Penguins and Crusaders will continue their three-game series on Friday at 2 p.m. Eastern.
Mickelson named in SEC complaint
NEW YORK
The Securities And Exchange Commission is filing a complaint against professional golfer Phil Mickelson related to insider trading.
The SEC says a gambler named William Walters received tips and business information about Dean Foods Co. from former Dean Foods director Thomas Davis between 2008 and 2012.
In 2012, the SEC says Walters called Mickelson, who owed him money, and urged him to trade Dean Foods stock. The SEC says Mickelson did so the next day and made a profit of $931,000.
Federer pulls out of French Open
PARIS
Roger Federer has pulled out of the French Open, ending his record of appearing in 65 consecutive Grand Slam tournaments dating back to 2000.
The 17-time major champion had a knee operation this year but returned to play in early April.
