The Whispering Pines District, Greater Western Reserve Council and the Boy Scouts of America programs came together on April 23 to help clean up Mill Creek MetroParks for Earth Day.

April 23 was the 34th annual Mill Creek MetroParks Earth Day Clean-up. Eighteen locations throughout Mill Creek MetroParks were visited and cleaned up by Cub Scout Packs, Girl Scout Troops and Boy Scout Troops.

Throughout the 33 years of the Earth Day Clean-up, there have been more than 11,000 volunteers who spent more than 34,700 hours working hard to keep the parks clean.

The groups met at 9 a.m. and worked until noon to help clean up litter and debris that can harm the environment. More than 300 volunteers came together to help each other and work together to clean the various locations of Mill Creek MetroParks. The volunteers are given bags and the materials necessary to help pick up the litter.

The boys in Troop 184 of Austintown were eager to help clean up. They got to spend the morning outside with each other and getting dirty while they cleaned up.

Mill Creek MetroParks was filled with boys, girls, troop leaders and parents who took time out of their day to help their community park look better. Each year the volunteers come to the park and help out no matter if its sunny or rainy.

Numerous bags are filled with random items that don’t belong in the park.

The Mahoning County Green Team Recycling Division and Keep America Beautiful’s Great American Clean-up brought forth their support for the MetroParks Earth Day Clean-up and those who volunteered. Tables were set up at Ford Nature Center where representatives from Boy Scouts of America and Mill Creek MetroParks were available for any information regarding the clean-up.
