Pure Cycle to host third annual Cycle for a Cure

Pure Cycle Studio will host its third annual Cycle for a Cure, a five hour spin-a-thon to raise money and awareness for multiple sclerosis. This year’s event will be hosted at the Canfield Fairgrounds from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. on May 22. All proceeds benefit the National Multiple Sclerosis Society Buckeye Chapter.

Cycle for a Cure was founded by Pure Cycle owner Shelly Colucci and cyclist David Fox. Next fall, Fox and his wife, Koreen Burrow, will complete their mission to ride a Bike MS event in every state. Bike MS cycling events are two-day, 150-mile rides to raise money for MS research and services. Burrow was diagnosed with MS when she was 26.

Riders participating in Cycle for a Cure donate $20 per hour during the five-hour cycling event, with 60 bikes allotted for each hour. Instructors take turns team teaching spin classes every hour. Pure Cycle hosted prior events at their studio in Canfield, but after the success of last year’s Cycle for a Cure, the studio is taking it on the road to the Fairgrounds.

“The amount of support we continue to receive from the community is amazing,” said instructor Missy Schmitt. “We’ve had donations of food and Chinese auction items from local businesses as well as monetary donations to help cover our costs. Last year we raised over $10,000, we’re hoping to raise more this year. These funds will go with the 40+ Pure Cycle group of cyclists who will ride in the Bike Ms: Buckeye Breakaway this summer.”

Other activities include free children “identikits” provided by the Canfield Police Department and free bike safety course, music by DJ Dynomyte, face painting, bounce house, hundreds of Chinese auction items and a chance to win two new bikes courtesy of Trailside Cycling and Austintown Glenwood Cycle. Volunteers will serve food and refreshments.

Cycle for a Cure is free to attend. To stay updated on event details, follow Pure Cycle on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter.
