Volunteer Detroit park grass cutters try blindfolded mowing

DETROIT

Volunteers helping to maintain Detroit parks and playgrounds took a crack at mowing grass while blindfolded as part of a friendly competition.

The Detroit News reports that the Detroit Mower Gang had the “Blindfold Mowing Olympics” recently while trimming Hammerberg Field on the city’s west side. The contest came after they wanted to determine who could drive a riding mower the straightest without seeing.

It wasn’t easy: Two of the six contestants mowed an X in the grass as they crossed paths at Hammerberg Field, which includes a playground, football field and baseball diamond. Two others mowed perpendicular paths.

Jim Coffman went crooked but not as crooked as the others, so he won the first race. The newspaper says the prize was a bunch of used blindfolds.

Tame, housebroken half-ton bison for sale by Texas owner

ARGYLE, Texas

An 8-year-old bison named Bullet has outgrown its Texas home, and the owner wants to find a new place for the 1,000-pound pet to roam.

Karen Schoeve, of Argyle, told WFAA-TV that Bullet occasionally is allowed inside the family’s house but needs more space and grassland. She says the bison is tame and housebroken.

The family has posted a Craigslist ad listing Bullet as for sale for almost $6,000, as long as the new owner will allow the bison to continue interacting with people.

Schoeve says Bullet is used to being around people but warns that the big animal should never be left alone inside a house or with children.

Argyle is 30 miles northwest of Dallas.

Flight attendant charged with stealing mini liquor bottles

MEMPHIS, Tenn.

Officials say a former Endeavor Air flight attendant is charged with stealing nearly 1,500 mini-bottles of liquor from her job and selling them online.

The Shelby County district attorney’s office said that 28-year-old Rachel Trevor has been indicted on charges including theft, unlawful sale of alcohol and unauthorized transportation of alcohol.

Tennessee Alcoholic Beverage Commission investigators say Trevor would put the small bottles of rum, vodka, gin and whiskey in her bag after a flight, then post them for sale on Craigslist.

Investigators said the bottles typically sell for $8 on flights, but Trevor sold them for $1 apiece. Endeavor Air is a regional affiliate of Delta Air Lines. A spokesman says Trevor is no longer with Endeavor Air.

Online records do not show if Trevor has a lawyer.
