Pat Catan’s hosted the 12th annual Iron Crafters event on April 16. The event is a competition between schools to create a project that is unknown to them until the morning of competition. The event is a way for students and schools to compete while having fun creating art.
In a race against the clock, the teams must plan their project, organize their crafting supplies and create a craft masterpiece that not only incorporates the secret craft ingredient (which was clothespins this year) but also keeps to the year’s Iron Crafter theme.
This year’s theme was “Kinetic Structure” with the requirement being to show mobility in the creation.
Each team had an identical box of craft supplies to work with, but the creations had to be completely unique. The team with the best finished project at each store was named that store’s Iron Crafter champions.
This year, the blue team, consisting of Fitch juniors Wendy Liu, Katie O’Brien, Morgan Crawford and Jasmine Loyen, came away with the win. Team members earned $25 each, a trophy and $100 for the school. Also participating were students on the red team, including freshman Samantha Learn and sophomores Brandon Marroquin and Kacie Roth.
