ALLIANCES

Ohio Cultural Alliance and the Mahoning Valley Association of Churches, exploring its 2016 theme of Faith in the Mahoning Valley, will have a 6 p.m. June 6 dinner meeting in the hall of Archangel Michael Church, 301 12th St., Campbell. The Rev. Constantine Valantasis will address “Faith in the Mahoning Valley: Orthodox.” Father Valantasis was ordained in 1988 and has served in California and Ohio before moving to St. Demetrios in Warren in 2010. Cultural enrichment will be provided by a Balalaika group directed by June Malachany. Cost is $15 for members and $20 for nonmembers. Girard High School Athletic Boosters will meet at 8 p.m. Wednesday at the high school.

Struthers High School Class of 1956 Women will meet for a luncheon at noon Monday at Johnny’s Restaurant on Market Street in Boardman.

CLUBS

Frackfree Mahoning Valley meets 6 p.m. each Sunday at First Unitarian Universalist Church, 1105 Elm St., Youngstown. Ongoing action and activities are discussed. All who desire a frack free environment and healthy neighborhoods are welcome to attend. For information call 234-201-0402.

Newcomers of Mahoning Valley will have an 11:30 a.m. social Wednesday at Johnny’s Restaurant in Boardman. Installation of officers will follow lunch. This is the club’s last luncheon until September, but other club activities will continue throughout the summer. COUNCILS

Youngstown Section of the National Council of Negro Women Inc. will meet Saturday at the Boardman Holiday Inn for its Women of Distinction luncheon. Members are asked to wear white and arrive at 10 a.m. for a group photo. The monthly meeting for June has been rescheduled to June 18.

Youngstown South Christian Women’s Connection will host a “Summertime is Here” luncheon from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. June 8 at Avion on the Water, 2177 W. Western Reserve Road, Canfield. The event will feature a “Damsel in Distress” program by Marty and Bobby Kowalewski, music by Rachell Joy and guest speaker Joyce Hondru of Pittsburgh, who will discuss “A Business Woman Who Sometimes Gets Lost.” The cost, including lunch, is $13.50. SOCIETIES

Mahoning Valley Accounting Society will offer a tax-efficient investing program Tuesday at A La Cart Catering, 429 Lisbon St., Canfield. Registration begins at 5:45 p.m., and the seminar starts at 6. Dan Betts, Morgan Stanley financial planning specialist, will share tips for tax-efficient investing and the financial implications of living longer. SUPPORT GROUPS

F.O.C.U.S., a breast cancer support group, will meet at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Davidson’s Restaurant, 3636 Canfield Road, Cornersburg. All breast cancer survivors and caregivers are encouraged to attend.

NAMI Mahoning Valley will host a 10-week spring peer-to-peer class starting at 6 p.m. Monday at Northside Hospital, 500 Gypsy Lane, Building A, Classroom B. The educational program for adults diagnosed with mental illness offers a holistic approach to recovery taught with lectures, discussion, exercises and stress management techniques, providing a tool kit about diagnoses, symptoms, medications and the personal experience of living with mental illness. R-Weigh Weight Support Groups meet on Mondays at First Friends Church, 1028 Jennings Ave., Salem. Afternoon weigh-in is from 1 to 1:30 p.m., and the meeting will follow at 1:45. Evening weigh-ins are from 5 to 6 p.m. followed by the meeting at 6:15. The first meeting is free. Guests are welcome. The club is an all-volunteer, nonprofit group of women helping women to lose weight. All money paid returns to the members in incentives to lose weight.
