POLICE CALLS
A summary of recent criminal activity in Girard and Hubbard:
GIRARD
May 15
Theft: Two wooden ramps were removed from a pickup truck’s bed in the 200 block of East Main Street.
Arrest: While answering a fight call in the 40 block of West Liberty Street, authorities charged a Girard girl, 16, with criminal trespassing and disorderly conduct. Despite having been advised to leave the residence, the girl returned a short time later and fought with a family member, a report showed.
May 16
Menacing: Police responded to a report that a large number of people were preparing to fight one another South Ward Avenue, where two families and family members each reported having been threatened by the others.
Domestic violence: Kenneth Cochrane, 39, of Trumbull Avenue, Girard, was charged with the crime after his wife alleged that during an argument, Cochrane had struck her face and fought with her.
Attempted fraud: A Lawrence Avenue man told police that after having responded to an email ad, he received a $2,995 check from a Merrifield, Va., man, along with instructions to buy and send five money orders totaling $2,625 to someone in Houston.
May 17
Menacing: A girl reported that while walking near Ward and Stull avenues, a woman approached and called the teen a series of derogatory names, apparently as part of ongoing problems between them.
Assault: A North St. Clair Avenue man told police two men punched him in the mouth and struck the back of his head during a fight between them.
Drug paraphernalia: An officer reported having seen someone stumbling about in a bank’s drive-through before police charged Joshua C. Benner of East Second Street, Girard, with disorderly conduct while intoxicated and possession of drug paraphernalia. In addition to being intoxicated, the 45-year-old Benner had a suspected marijuana pipe with marijuana residue, a report stated.
May 18
Possible burglary: A woman called police after saying she thought a man was trying to break into her Lincoln Avenue residence.
Arrest: A traffic stop on U.S. Route 422 resulted in the arrest of 25-year-old Marlon J. Tarver of Philadelphia Avenue, Youngstown, who was wanted on two warrants, one each from Boardman and Campbell. Tarver also was cited when, police said, he was driving 62 mph in a 35-mph zone.
HUBBARD
May 11
Attempted theft/theft: Adam M. Young, 31, of Moore Street, Hubbard, was charged with one count of attempted theft of an elderly person, a felony, after an Elizabeth Avenue man told police Young had banged on his door and tried to coerce the accuser into giving him $30. Also, on May 10, Young was charged with theft of dangerous drugs, a third-degree felony, after a family member alleged he had stolen numerous prescription medications from her car.
May 13
Arrest: Campbell police handed to Hubbard authorities 42-year-old Jason E. Heard, who listed Youngstown addresses on South Portland and Warwick avenues. He was wanted on a city warrant charging failure to appear in court.
Damage: A meter reader reportedly walked on newly poured cement and damaged part of a driveway in the 200 block of Jean Street.
Burglary: To a first-floor apartment in the 400 block of West Liberty Street. Items stolen included clothing, car keys and a fishing license.
Child endangering: An East Liberty Street man reported that his 10-year-old grandson told him that the boy and his younger siblings, 5 and 7, had intentionally been locked out of their apartment.
May 14
Menacing: A clerk at a state Route 304 business alleged a 26-year-old Akron man had threatened to kill her and terrorize the accuser’s children if she refused to take a birth-control pill after they had sexual relations.
May 17
Arrest: An officer approached a vehicle that was blocking his cruiser at the Hubbard Police Department on School Street before taking 53-year-old Jeffrey S. Bell into custody. Bell, who listed addresses on Beechwood Avenue in Hubbard and Bedford Road in Masury, was charged with operating a vehicle impaired.
