Ohio school district apologizes after student is left asleep on bus

SPRINGBORO, Ohio (AP) — A southwest Ohio school district is apologizing after an elementary student was left asleep on a bus.

The Hamilton-Middletown Journal-News reports Springboro schools spokeswoman Karen DeRosa says a Clearcreek Elementary student was found asleep on a school bus Tuesday afternoon inside the transportation lot after the parent called school officials wanting to know why the child hadn’t returned from school. The district says the bus driver wasn’t aware the student remained on the bus and didn’t get off at the stop. Officials say the driver didn’t complete a required bus check at the end of the route.

Superintendent Todd Petrey says in an email the incident was unacceptable and swift action will be taken.

DeRosa says the route has a new driver and an investigation is underway.
