Seven Mahoning Valley schools are among those recognized by the Ohio School Board for exceeding expectations in student growth for the year.

Both Jackson-Milton Elementary and Middle schools were among those across the state designated Momentum Schools.

“Any Ohio school or district is eligible for the Momentum Award if it receives straight A’s on all Value-Added measures on the report card,” according to a news release from ODE. “The school or district must have at least two Value-Added subgroups of students, which include gifted, lowest 20 percent in achievement and students with disabilities.”

The Jackson-Milton School District also earned the designation.

“The Momentum Award recognizes districts that have received A’s on every value-added measure included on Ohio’s school and district report cards,” Thomas Gunlock, state school board president, wrote in a letter to Kirk Baker, Jackson-Milton Schools superintendent. “For your students, you are keeping the learning momentum high.”

East Palestine Elementary School in Columbiana County and North Road Elementary School in Howland, Newton Falls Middle School, Niles Intermediate School and Willard Avenue pre-kindergarten to eighth-grade School, all in Trumbull County, also earned the Momentum Awards.
