HOWLAND
Mercy Health – Youngstown broke ground at 10 a.m. today for its new $14.5 million, 50,000- square-foot Howland Medical Center, an outpatient ambulatory facility at 1934 Niles-Cortland Road (state Route 46).
The Howland Medical Center is adjacent to Mercy Health – Youngstown’s Howland Surgery Center and serves to bring together physician offices, rehabilitation services, diagnostic imaging and lab services into one location.
Speakers for the event are: Donald Kline, president and CEO, Mercy Health – Youngstown; Kathy Cook, president, Mercy Health – St. Joseph Warren Hospital; Dr. James Kravec, executive vice president and chief clinical officer, Mercy Health – Youngstown; Betty Jo Licata, chairwoman of the Mercy Health – Youngstown board; and Rick Clark, chairman of the Howland Township Board of Trustees. Light refreshments will be served.
Walk of Remembrance
YOUNGSTOWN
Assistant U.S. Attorney Joseph M. Pinjuh and Juvenile Drug Court Magistrate Anthony M. D’Apolito are the keynote speakers for the inaugural Mahoning County Steps of Change: Walk a Mile in My Shoes event from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday at First Unitarian Universalist Church of Youngstown, 1105 Elm St., across from Wick Park – East.
Registration for the Walk of Remembrance in Wick Park is from noon to 12:45 p.m., followed by the reading of Names in Memorial and the Walk of Remembrance from 1 to 1:30 p.m. in Wick Park.
Keynote speakers Pinjuh and D’Apolito speak at 2 and 3 p.m., respectively.
Other speakers include Amy Klumpp, coordinator/navigator for the Adult Drug Court; Eric Ungaro and Samantha Hird, both of The Family Voice; Michelle Wolf of The Voice of Recovery and Hopeanne Lovrinoff-Moran, Mahoning County coordinator of OhioCAN.
There will also be resource tables, children’s activities, an auction and 50/50 raffle, musical entertainment and food for sale to benefit OhioCAN.

Seeking volunteers

Crossroads Hospice 3743 Boettler Oaks Drive, Suite E, Green, is seeking compassionate volunteers to provide comfort, companionship and a helping hand to terminally-ill patients and their families in their homes, in assisted living and nursing facilities, and to help in the office.
Crossroads Hospice welcomes student volunteers 16 and older to become volunteers. By donating as little as 45 minutes per week, students can help fulfill community-service requirements while honing their social abilities, boosting self-confidence and developing new skills.
Volunteers share activities like reading, card games, playing music, or arts and crafts. They can bring their pets to visit patients or run errands and provide respite for family members.

Ostomy support
BOARDMAN
The Youngstown Area Ostomy Support Group will meet from 6 to 7 p.m. June 14 in the Azalea Room of St. Elizabeth Boardman Hospital, 8401 Market Street, Boardman.
Sponsored by Mercy Health – Youngstown, the support group is a member of the United Ostomy Association of America Inc., a national network for bowel and urinary diversion support groups in the United States.
