Mercy Health breaks ground on new Howland Medical Center

HOWLAND — The former 6,000-square-foot Mercy Health urgent care and office building on Niles-Cortland Road has been removed to make way for the 50,000-square-foot Howland Medical Center.

A number of Mercy Health-Youngstown and Mercy Health-St. Joseph Warren Hospital officials and dignitaries assembled today at the site where the construction is about to begin.

“This new building is designed to create an environment that is centered around patient-care activity, with physicians and surgeons all on site in a single location,” said Dr. James Kravec, executive vice president and chief clinical officer for Mercy Health Youngstown.

“It will improve patient communications and provide health-care services that exceed the expectations of our patients,” he said of the $14.5 million facility being constructed by Jack Gibson Construction of Warren.
