Pair face charges after false 'missing man' report

COLUMBIANA — A man who was supposed to be missing in the Guilford Lake area Sunday evening will instead be charged with making false alarms and one of his two girlfriends will be charged with falsification.

James E. Artrup Jr., 27 and Candy Ammon, 44, are both in the Columbiana County jail after detectives with the Columbiana County Sheriff’s Office determined that Artrup was not missing.

A girlfriend had called police early Sunday evening and said Artrup had gone fishing at the lake but did not return. However, he was found this morning at a home in Wellsville with Ammon, who he worked with.

Chief Deputy Allen Haueter said Hammon and Artrup both work together and when Hammon did not show up for work, investigators went there looking for Artrup.

Haueter said Artrup lied to detectives about where he was, and both knew there was a search on but neither called police.
