Crews search Alabama river for missing 5-year-old girl

CLAYHATCHEE, Ala. (AP) — Crews have been searching a southeast Alabama river and areas nearby for a missing 5-year-old girl.

Dale County Chief Sheriff’s Deputy Mason Bynum said the girl was swimming with two siblings when all three went under water in the Choctawhatchee River Sunday afternoon. Bynum said another person in the area was able to rescue two of the siblings.

The Dothan Eagle reports that crews searched until late Sunday night and planned to resume the search on Monday.

The newspaper reports that aircraft, divers and other personnel were called in to assist in the search.

Authorities said the search was concentrated on the river, near a boat ramp off Alabama Highway 92.

Clayhatchee, a small Dale County town, is about 20 miles west of Dothan.
