Yankees 2, White Sox 1

NEW YORK

Dellin Betances, Andrew Miller and Aroldis Chapman combined for scoreless relief and struck out eight as the New York Yankees used their three big bullpen arms in the same game for the first time to secure a victory over the Chicago White Sox. Ivan Nova pitched neatly into the sixth inning to give New York’s ailing rotation a much-needed boost.

Red Sox 6, Astros 5, 11 innings

BOSTON

David Ortiz hit a winning double with two outs in the 11th inning after lining a tying triple in the ninth and earlier moving into 20th place on the career home run list, sending the Boston Red Sox past the Houston Astros. Boston’s Jackie Bradley Jr. singled in the first inning, extending the majors’ longest hitting streak to 20 games. George Springer hit a grand slam and Carlos Correa a solo homer for the Astros.

Rays 6, Athletics 0

ST. PETERSBURG, FLA.

Matt Andriese pitched a two-hitter for his first career shutout and Brad Miller hit a two-run home run, leading the Tampa Bay Rays to a victory over the Oakland Athletics. Andriese (2-0) won for the second time this week in helping the Rays end a four-game losing streak. He beat the Los Angeles Angels 3-1 on Sunday in his first start since being called up from Triple-A Durham.

Orioles 9, Tigers 3

BALTIMORE

Jonathan Schoop hit two home runs, including a grand slam, and the Baltimore Orioles defeated the Detroit Tigers to stretch their winning streak to seven games. Matt Wieters and Adam Jones also homered for the Orioles, who will seek to complete a four-game sweep Sunday. Schoop hit a solo shot in the seventh and his second career slam in the eighth to finish with a career-high five RBIs.

Nationals 6-1, Marlins 4-7

WASHINGTON

Marcell Ozuna and J.T. Realmuto each drove in two runs and the Miami Marlins beat the Washington Nationals to split a doubleheader. The Nationals won the opener behind six strong innings from Stephen Strasburg. Right after the final out, Washington announced that Bryce Harper had dropped his appeal of a one-game suspension and would sit out the nightcap for his behavior following an ejection on Monday.

Phillies 4, Reds 3

PHILADELPHIA

Tyler Goeddel threw out Eugenio Suarez with catcher Cameron Rupp holding onto the ball following a violent collision to end the game and the Philadelphia Phillies held on to beat the Cincinnati Reds. Aaron Nola (3-2) tied a career high with nine strikeouts in seven stingy innings, Odubel Herrera hit a solo homer and David Hernandez pitched out of a jam for his first save since July 12, 2013, for Arizona against Milwaukee.

Braves 5, Royals 0

KANSAS CITY, MO.

Mike Foltynewicz pitched a career-high eight scoreless innings, Kelly Johnson and A.J. Pierzynski each drove in two runs, and the Atlanta Braves beat the Kansas City Royals. Foltynewicz (1-1) got his first victory since Aug. 8, holding the Royals to seven hits, while striking out four and walking none. The Braves (9-26) avoided matching the worst 35-game start in franchise history.

Rangers 6, Blue Jays 5, 10 innings

ARLINGTON, TEXAS

Drew Stubbs homered with two outs in the 10th inning, helping the Texas Rangers beat Toronto after the Blue Jays rallied with consecutive homers in the ninth to force extra innings. Justin Smoak hit a two-run homer and Troy Tulowitzki followed with a tying shot off closer Shawn Tolleson in the ninth.

Giants 5, Diamondbacks 3

PHOENIX

Buster Posey hit a two-run double in the ninth inning and Hunter Pence had his 200th career home run to lead the San Francisco Giants to a win over Arizona Diamondbacks. San Francisco led 3-1 after Jake Peavy’s six strong innings, but the bullpen couldn’t hold the lead.

Rockies 7, Mets 4

DENVER

DJ LeMahieu and Tony Wolters had two hits and two RBIs apiece and the Colorado Rockies beat the New York Mets. Trevor Story and Gerardo Parra also had two hits for Colorado, which has won three straight at home for the first time this season. Mets starter Logan Verrett (3-1) struggled in the same place where he earned his first win in his major league debut.
