Ryan honors finalists in art competition

YOUNGSTOWN

U.S. Rep Tim Ryan of Howland, D-13th, honored finalists for a Congressional Art Competition at a Saturday reception at the Butler Institute of American Art. Prizes were awarded from a selection of nearly 90 pieces of art submitted from high schools in the 13th Congressional District.

Best of show was awarded to Arielle Kreuzwieser of Ursuline; first place, Damani Santiago, Cardinal Mooney; second place, Natalie Steigmann-Gall, Firestone; and third place, Emma Cruz of Niles McKinley.

Honorable-mention award winners and their schools are: Bristen Evans of Valley Christian; Isabella Latell, Sarah Skiver and Elsie Kibler, Ursuline; Tori Goff, Norton; Gianna Allesse Jones, Warren G. Harding; Hayley Ohl, Trumbull Career and Technical Center; Allison Simon, Jenny Wang and Kwame’ Gomez, Firestone; and Elisabeth Butto and Anna Warhol, Boardman.

EEO representative to visit local NAACP

A representative with U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission will visit the Youngstown unit of the NAACP from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday to help file complaints of employment discrimination based on race, religion, sex, national origin, age (40 and older), disability or retaliation.

The EEOC considers retaliation the firing of a worker who complained about job discrimination, gave evidence in a job-discrimination matter or filed a charge of job discrimination with the commission.

The local unit of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People is at the Cobbin Office Tower, 1350 Fifth Ave., Suite 202. Free parking is available.

Kindergartners’ fair

STRUTHERS

Struthers Elementary School, 520 Ninth St., will host its first “Roaring into Kindergarten Fair” from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.

The fair is intended to help incoming students and their parents with the transition to kindergarten.

Students will be able to meet the principals, take a tour of a school bus and walk through the lunch line. The event also will include a raffle to win one of two bikes donated by United Way of Youngstown and the Mahoning Valley.
