Man jailed, is facing assault, firearm charges

Brent P. Williams, 32, of Hazelwood Avenue Southeast is in the Trumbull County Jail awaiting arraignment next week after he was charged Friday with felonious assault and being a felon in possession of a firearm.

He’s accused of firing a weapon at two females who came to visit him at 12:47 p.m. Monday in front of a home in the 800 block of Hazelwood Avenue Southeast.

A 23-year-old city woman said she and another female went to the home to buy marijuana from Williams, but when Williams arrived on a bicycle, he went into the house, got a weapon and came out firing at them.

The Akron woman said the gun looked real but sounded like a BB gun. The women fled and were not injured. Police did not find the shooter.

Police probe accident

YOUNGSTOWN

Police are investigating a multi- vehicle accident at the Madison Avenue Expressway and Oak Street on the city’s East Side.

It happened Friday afternoon near the Royal Oaks bar and involved six vehicles, according to 21 WFMJ-TV, The Vindicator’s broadcast partner.

Investigators believe a car traveling at a high rate of speed hit a divider on the expressway, then ran into the other vehicles.

Police say four people went to an area hospital. They do not believe anyone was seriously injured.

The intersection was closed until the wreckage was cleared.

Woman is assaulted

A woman suffered bruises on her forehead and small stab wounds on her stomach at her house in the 800 block of Willard Avenue Southeast at 4:06 a.m. Friday.

The woman said the injuries came from a drug dealer who came into the house and chased her. She refused treatment.

Jailed on burglary count

Police arrested James Lenhart, 18, of Pittsburgh and took him to the Trumbull County Jail on Thursday afternoon on one count of burglary in connection with the April 20 theft of jewelry and medication from a home in the 6000 block of Merwin Chase Road.

Lenhart is scheduled for arraignment Tuesday in Eastern District Court. Brookfield Police Detective Aaron Kasiewicz said Friday he cannot comment on what led him to identify Lenhart as the person suspected of committing the crime.

Breaking ground for Mercy Health center

HOWLAND

The groundbreaking for a $14.5 million, 50,000-square-foot Mercy Health Howland Medical Center outpatient center at 1934 Niles-Cortland Road will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday.

It will be built adjacent to Mercy Heath’s Howland Surgery Center and bring together physician offices, rehabilitation services, diagnostic imaging and lab services at one location, Mercy Health said in a news release.

Skin-cancer screenings

WARREN

ValleyCare Trumbull Memorial Hospital – in conjunction with the American Cancer Society, Mercy Health and the American Academy of Dermatology – is taking appointments for free skin-cancer screenings.

The screenings will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday in TMH’s Radiology Oncology Department located at 1353 E. Market St., across from the main hospital.
