Poland North Preschool students celebrated Earth Day on April 22.

Joy Bucci’s class spent Earth Day planting a lilac bush that was donated to them by Kushners Garden and Patio. The students made their way out to the courtyard after finishing their snack to plant the bush. One of the fathers came down to the school to help the students dig a hole and help them put the bush in. When the lilac bush was in its hole, the students took dirt and made sure to cover the roots so the bush would stay in place and grow.

Samantha Cox and Terry Wittenauer’s class had a visit from Peg Flynn from the Green Team. Flynn, dressed up as Michael Recycle, read the story “Michael Recycle” to the students. Flynn taught the students about recycling and how to help keep the Earth clean.

When the story was finished, Flynn passed out cut off pop bottle bottoms to the students. The bottoms of the pop bottles were decorated with ribbon and the students got stickers to put on them too. Flynn was trying to show that different items can be recycled in various ways. The pop bottle bottoms could be used as a candy dish on a desk, decoration or anything else they could imagine.

Students learned how to do their part to keep the Earth clean and what different activities they can partake in that help the Earth.
