A summary of recent criminal activity in Poland and Boardman:

POLAND

May 2

Identity fraud: A Fifth Street woman found out someone had opened a checking account in her name without consent.

Theft: A woman discovered numerous pieces of jewelry missing from her New Castle Road residence. The loss was estimated at $12,627.

Identity fraud: A Duncan Drive woman reported receiving two text-message alerts indicating her debit card had been used to make unauthorized transactions that totaled $478.

May 4

Arrest: Police near Kansas and Struthers roads took 40-year-old Rance A. Jefferies of Galbreath Street, New Castle, Pa., into custody. He was wanted on a warrant.

May 7

Arrest: A traffic stop in the 70 block of McKinley Way resulted in a charge of driving under suspension against 38-year-old Kevin Corrigan Jr. of Eldon Drive, Champion.

BOARDMAN

May 4

Assault: An Akron woman alleged her former boyfriend, of Indianola Road, knocked her to the ground, then choked her after becoming angered when the accuser looked at messages on his cellphone.

Breaking and entering: Someone pried open three cabinets at an AT&T kiosk in Southern Park Mall, though it was undetermined if any property was missing.

Criminal damaging: Two people reportedly poured ice-cream topping over countertops, dumped strawberries into 12 cold-bar inserts and overturned patio furniture before leaving Menchie’s Frozen Yogurt, 813 Boardman-Poland Road. Shortly beforehand, an employee had been terminated, a police report stated.

Theft: A man about age 40 reportedly stole a $200 set of cordless headphones from AT&T, 650 Boardman-Canfield Road.

Harassment: A worker for a Southern Park Mall store reported having received several threatening calls and text messages.

Harassment: A Mathews Road woman said she received roughly 20 such cellphone calls.

Theft: A man reportedly took $100 worth of merchandise from Family Dollar, 4026 South Ave.

Theft: A 16-year-old Youngstown boy was accused of stealing a $20 Sony PlayStation 3 game from Walmart, 1300 Doral Drive. The teen also was handed a minor-misdemeanor citation charging him with having a small quantity of suspected marijuana.

Criminal damaging: Zachary R. Eichelberger, 20, was taken into custody during a traffic stop near his Willow Drive residence on a criminal-damaging charge. In early March, the Boardman man’s former girlfriend alleged that during an argument pertaining to their relationship, he destroyed her $700 cellphone with a hammer.

Theft: Police charged 32-year-old Aquattalakia L. Jackson with complicity to theft after alleging the Cleveland woman had intentionally distracted an employee to allow a man to steal two pairs of sunglasses from Sunglass Hut in Southern Park Mall.

May 5

Arrest: After responding to a shoplifting situation at the J.C. Penney store in Southern Park Mall, officers picked up Judith G. Douglas of Oakwood Avenue, Youngstown. Douglas, 40, was wanted on a Trumbull County warrant charging failure to appear in court.

Citation: Officers issued a minor-misdemeanor citation to 25-year-old Deonte J. Tarver of Ohio Avenue, Youngstown, after getting a complaint that someone had urinated in a parking lot in the 400 block of Boardman-Poland Road.

Aggravated menacing: A Hunters Cove Drive woman reported a man had called threatening to burn down her home.

Breaking and entering: Someone entered an AT&T kiosk in Southern Park Mall and damaged a safe, apparently in an effort to break into it.

Arrest: A traffic stop on Market Street led to 27-year-old Victor A. Toney’s arrest. Toney, who listed Youngstown addresses on Maywood Avenue and Parkview Drive, was wanted on two city warrants accusing him of failing to appear in court.

Counterfeit: A man reportedly used two phony $100 bills to buy two pairs of work boots from Sears in Southern Park Mall.

Criminal mischief/trespassing: A man was reportedly captured on video-surveillance footage trespassing on property belonging to Agnew Farm Equipment, 7700 Market St. Beforehand, someone evidently had tampered with several of the business’s cameras.

Theft: Police in downtown Youngstown picked up 20-year-old Trevonn A. Sawyer, who was wanted on a theft charge. Sawyer, of Crandall Avenue, Youngstown, was accused of being one of two people to have left Primanti Bros., 6731 South Ave., on Jan. 10 without paying a $29 food bill.

May 6

Arrests: After responding to a complaint that two underage women were drinking alcoholic beverages at a Boardman-Canfield Road restaurant, police charged Macy K. Emery, 19, of Youngstown-Salem Road, Canfield, and 20-year-old Paige E. Herrara of Bradford Drive, Canfield, with underage consumption of alcohol.

Theft: Joseph E. Grove, 29, of West Judson Avenue, Youngstown, was phone booked on a theft charge related to a Jan. 16 shoplifting situation at the J.C. Penney store in which five pairs of shoes were taken.

Harassment: A Lockwood Boulevard woman found out someone had created a fake online account with her name and included a seductive photograph of the accuser.

Theft: Two cellphone chargers, 60 prescription pills and $15 were removed from a car at Southern Park Mall.

Criminal mischief: A McArthur Drive man saw that someone had intentionally cut a rope used to tether his dog.

Criminal damaging: A vehicle at a Market Street dealership was found with two punctured tires.

Counterfeit: A fake $50 bill was passed at Giant Eagle, 1201 Doral Drive.

Fraud: An employee with Walgreen’s Pharmacy, 7235 Market St., told police a caller claiming to represent the business’s corporate offices said he needed to adjust the credit-card-reading machines and tricked the worker into temporarily disabling the devices and scanning eight $495 gift cards. The loss was estimated at $3,964.

Identity fraud: A Melbourne Avenue woman learned that her credit card had been used to make an unauthorized $100 purchase at a Florida Home Depot store.

May 7

Theft: John P. Metz, 43, of Old Colony Drive, New Castle, Pa., was charged with stealing two $15 hanging baskets from Uhrain Greenhouses, 704 Maple Ave.

Aggravated menacing: A Hudson Drive woman said she received multiple text messages, including some containing threats she would be beaten up and killed.

Drugs: While answering a call about an unresponsive person in the 7400 block of West Boulevard, authorities charged 21-year-old Alexander R. Rotz-Shafer of West Boulevard, Boardman, with corrupting another person with drugs, a second-degree felony, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Rotz-Shafer admitted he and a woman took heroin he had bought earlier; in addition, a device used to grind marijuana, two bowls with suspected marijuana residue and suspected marijuana were found, police alleged.

Theft: Christina L. Baker, 37, of Midland Avenue, Youngstown, was charged in the theft of a women’s belt and a bottle of shampoo from Walmart.

Theft: Authorities at the Mahoning County jail phone booked 34-year-old Scott T. Herrmann on a theft charge. Herrmann, of Lockwood Boulevard, Boardman, was accused of stealing $113 worth of merchandise March 11 from Walmart, then returning the items to receive store credit.

May 8

Arrest: While responding to a suspicious vehicle on Lemont Drive, authorities charged Anthony J. Antonas, 35, of Oak Hill Extension, Youngstown, with operating a vehicle impaired and obstructing official business after alleging that during the booking process, an agitated Antonas continually interrupted an officer, refused to sign the paperwork and used profanities.

Attempted burglary: Someone apparently tried to enter a residence in the 700 block of Orlo Lane via the front door but fled on foot.

Theft: A Youngstown boy, 10, and an 11-year-old Campbell boy were accused of stealing two toy guns and a pair of scissors from Walmart. They also were charged with obstructing official business.

Auto theft: A 2006 Dodge vehicle was stolen in the 200 block of Boardman-Canfield Road.

Theft: A man reported a $150 set of headphones was stolen while he recuperated from a surgical procedure at a Boardman-Canfield Road care center.

Domestic violence: Daniel M. Rzonsa, 30, of Northlawn Avenue, Boardman, faced charges of domestic violence and assault on a police officer after authorities received information Rzonsa had threatened to burn down his brother’s home. After his arrest, Rzonsa also kicked an officer in the left temple area, a report showed.

May 9

Arrest: A traffic stop in the 7000 block of Southern Boulevard resulted in the arrest of 45-year-old Alfred D. Coward II of Shawnee Trail, Youngstown, on a Portage County warrant charging failure to appear in court.

Identity theft: A Timothy Lane woman found out someone without authorization had used her store credit card to make a $208 online purchase.

Harassment: An Old Oxford Lane woman reported an acquaintance had sent her 34 unwanted text messages.

Robbery: Officers responded to a fight in the 7000 block of West Boulevard, where a man told them another man who had grabbed the victim’s girlfriend’s purse struck him multiple times when the accuser tried to stop the man from leaving.

Theft: The owner of Spartan Fabrication Inc., 230 McClurg Road, alleged a former employee had stolen multiple tools, aluminum scrap and money, for a $4,100 loss.

Theft: A woman reportedly stole $50 worth of cleaning supplies from Dollar General, 859 E. Midlothian Blvd.

Counterfeit: A township man told police that while at a Boardman-Poland Road bank, he unwittingly bought a silver dollar that he later discovered was fake. The accuser also said he believed the bank had no knowledge of the situation.

Theft: A Wampum, Pa., woman reported $600 stolen while at a South Avenue big-box store.

Domestic violence: Deandre D. Levy, 25, of Maywood Avenue, Youngstown, surrendered on two felony domestic-violence charges related to a Feb. 26 situation in which his girlfriend, of South Schenley Avenue, alleged he had struck her face three or four times during an argument. Later, he pushed the accuser against a wall and slammed her onto the floor when she informed Levy she intended to end their relationship, she further alleged.

Arrests: After pulling them over near Overhill Road, authorities took into custody 36-year-old Bruce A. Connelly of West LaClede Avenue, Youngstown, on a charge of operating a vehicle impaired after saying his blood-alcohol count was 0.095, slightly higher than Ohio’s 0.08 legal intoxication limit. Also arrested was 45-year-old Ronald Smith Jr. of East Evergreen Avenue, Youngstown, who was wanted on two felony warrants from Roanoke, Va., charging him with selling cocaine.
