The Austintown Fitch Drama Department put on a presentation of the play “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat,” on April 15, 16 and 17 at Fitch High School.
There was a “soft opening” for several nursing homes in the Austintown community on April 14. This performance gave the students an opportunity to prepare for their opening public performance on April 14.
Around 70 students are part of the drama club at Fitch, whether they are performing on stage or working backstage. The students have been working since November to prepare for the show. There were students from Austintown Middle and Intermediate schools that also took part in the play. The students on stage ranged from 11-18 years-old.
“It’s a show that this stage hasn’t seen before, it’s a big deal this year. I’m stoked beyond belief,” said drama club advisor, Bill Klein.
Austintown received new lights this year and this was the perfect opportunity to put them to use. There was also a live orchestra performing the music for the play. The orchestra consisted of Fitch students, as well as professional musicians.
Many of the costumes were made by Klein’s assistant, Mia Pizzullo, out of bed sheets brought in by the students. Highway Taberncale in Austintown donated several costumes and materials in conjunction with Pizzullo.
“It’s a fun show. It’s a really family-friendly show. It’s funny, there’s some kind of dramatic parts, there’s absolutely hilarious parts,” said Klein.
