Boardman track team continues to improve record
The Boardman boys track team improved its 2016 record to 9-1 overall and 5-1 in the AAC with a 68-64-41 victory over the Howland Tigers and the Lakeview Bulldogs on April 26.
The Spartans opened the meet with a second place finish in the 4x800 meter relay with the team of juniors Chris Butler, Nathaniel Ams, Nick Digiacomo and sophomore Nick Lascola. In the 1600-meter run Butler placed first at the time 4:35 and Ams was third at 4:52. Senior Kris Santilli finished second in the 400-meter run with a time of 53.3 seconds he was followed by classmate Adam Deeley in third with a time of 56.5. Senior Nick Cessna placed second in the 300 hurdles with classmate Cannon Carlile in fourth. In the 800-meter run, senior Brendon Lucas placed first at 2:05 with junior Kobe Adu-Poku in third at 2:10. Meanwhile in the 200-meter run Santilli finished first in a time of 24.0 seconds. The next event was the 3200-meter run which saw Digiacomo place third in a time of 10:32.
In the field events, senior Jason Jama was first in the shot put with a throw of 49 feet 1.75 inches, he was followed by junior George Wallace in second at 45 feet 1.75 inches, sophomore Steven Amstutz in third at 43 feet 9.75 inches and senior Markese Haynes in fourth with a throw of 43 feet 4.25 inches. Wallace placed first in the discus at 142 feet 8 inches and senior Shawn Devlin was third at 126 feet 2 inches.
Meanwhile in the pole vault senior Richard Fisher finished first with a vault of 10 feet 6 inches and placed fourth in the long jump. Fisher also placed first in the high jump at 5 feet 10 inches with sophomore Justice Jama in third.
