Scott Mann, author and retired Green Beret, visited Poland library on April 20 to give a special presentation to the guests.
Mann, author of the book “Game Changers,” spoke to several people who attended the event. The event was part of the Literary Society program at the Mahoning County libraries. The Literary Society invites influential, best-selling authors to come speak to the public. They try to bring in two authors a year and usually get a good turnout for each author.
“It is the goal of our Literary Society to so build an endowment to continue to bring very important and influential best-selling authors into our community,” said Deborah Liptak, Developmental Director of the Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County.
The presentation started out with an introduction by Greg Smith, a local businessman and friend of Mann, The two men met at a Bo Eason Personal Story Power event in La Jolla, Calif. Mann has traveled around the United States speaking to people, not just about his book, but governmental issues and a contract he created called the Contract to Protect America, which Congressman Bill Johnson has signed.
“We had three times as many come tonight than Boston, Massachusetts did,” Smith.
At the end of the presentation, Mann hosted a question and answer session. Several of the guests had a variety of questions for Mann about his thoughts on different aspects of the government to questions about his life and experiences while he served for our country.
“The approach to my book is all about community resilience, it’s empowering community resilience,” said Mann.
Mann has a non-profit called Mission America - Reconnecting Warriors and Citizens. During his presentations, Mann talks about his non-profit and how it is helpful for warriors to reconnect with citizens at a community level. The money Mann earns from his book is put toward Mission America.
The Literary Society tries to bring in influential authors, like Mann, to give the audience an event to enjoy while being able to take something away from the message the author has given.
