BOARDMAN

A Struthers man is scheduled to appear in Mahoning County Area Court here today for arraignment on charges related to a police pursuit that reportedly ended with him crashing into a Burger King restaurant, striking a police cruiser and receiving treatment for a drug overdose.

Anthony Williams, 21, of Como Street, is charged with felonious assault, felony fleeing and eluding and misdemeanor counts of operating a vehicle while impaired, driving under suspension and possession of drug-abuse instruments.

Township police first were called to a Hillman Way parking lot Tuesday, according to a police report, in reference to a man passed out in a vehicle.

When police arrived, the driver of the vehicle (later identified as Williams) reportedly sped over a curb and led police on a chase. He reportedly drove into the parking lot of a Burger King, struck the building, put the vehicle in reverse and hit a police car.

Williams, according to the report, was unresponsive and foaming at the mouth when police pulled him out of the vehicle. He was revived with a medication that reverses the effects of opioid overdoses, and later told police he had shot up fentanyl, a powerful synthetic drug.

Williams was lodged in the Mahoning County jail after receiving treatment at an area hospital.
