Carson to speak
GROVE CITY, PA.
Pediatric neurosurgeon and recent Republican presidential candidate Dr. Ben Carson will address the newest graduates of Grove City College during Saturday’s commencement exercises, filling in for conservative author William J. Bennett, who was scheduled to speak but had to decline unexpectedly.
“Dr. Carson’s story of his journey from extreme poverty to becoming one of America’s leading physicians will certainly inspire our students. His address, titled ‘The Power of Knowledge,’ promises to resonate with the nearly 600 students who will be celebrating their own academic achievements,” President Paul J. McNulty said.
The college also will confer an honorary doctor of science degree upon Dr. Carson during the ceremony in recognition of his contributions to advancing medical science.
House OKs water bill
COLUMBUS
The Ohio House approved legislation Wednesday requiring faster public notification of lead contamination in drinking water.
Representatives approved House Bill 512 on a vote of 94-0. The legislation heads to the Ohio Senate for further consideration.
HB 512 would increase requirements for testing for and notification of lead in water from public systems. Under the legislation, residents and other users would have to be informed within two days if lead and copper levels topped allowed thresholds. A larger, more in-depth public-education program would have to be launched within 30 days.
Under current law, notice has to be made within 30 days, with a public-education campaign within 60 days. The legislation was offered after lead issues surfaced in water systems in Sebring.

Wrongful-death lawsuit is dropped
WARREN
Two sets of attorneys representing a survivor and four of the families that lost a child in the March 10, 2013, traffic crash that killed six teens have dismissed the wrongful-death lawsuit they had filed in Trumbull County Common Pleas Court.
It was dismissed without prejudice, meaning it can be re-filed at a later time.
The suits were filed by the families of Dylan Ray, 15; Kirklan Behner, 15; Andrique Bennett, 14; and Brandon A. Murry, 14. A suit filed by survivor Brian K. Henry, 21, was joined to the other legal action.
The action sought compensation from Warren and Trumbull County, claiming their failure to maintain the road, berm, curb and guardrails in the area of Warren-Niles River Road where the accident occurred resulted in the deaths.
