Struthers man revived, faces charges after fleeing, striking restaurant

BOARDMAN — A Struthers man faces multiple felony charges after he purportedly fled from police, crashed into a Burger King restaurant and struck a township police cruiser while under the influence of an opioid drug.

Anthony Williams, 21, of Como Street, is charged with felonious assault, felony fleeing and eluding, and misdemeanor counts of operating a vehicle while impaired, driving under suspension and possession of drug-abuse instruments. He is scheduled to appear in Mahoning County Area Court here Thursday.

Police first were called to the scene of a Hillman Way parking lot Tuesday, according to a police report, in reference to a male passed out in a vehicle.

When police arrived, the driver of the vehicle (later identified as Williams) reportedly sped over a curb and led police on a chase.

Williams reportedly drove into the parking lot of a Burger King, struck the building, put the vehicle in reverse and hit a police car, at which point the pursuit ended.

Williams, according to the report, was unresponsive and foaming at the mouth when police pulled him out of his vehicle. He was revived with a medication that reverses the effects of opioid overdoses, and later told police he had shot up with fentanyl, a powerful synthetic drug.

Williams was lodged in the Mahoning County jail after receiving treatment at an area hospital.
