Couple hospitalized after early-morning Warren fire

WARREN — A man and woman living in a home at 726 Adelaide Ave. Southeast were taken to ValleyCare Trumbull Memorial Hospital after a 3:01 a.m. fire today destroyed their house.

The man suffered burns to his head, and both were treated for smoke inhalation, said Warren Fire Chief Ken Nussle.

When firefireghters arrived, the man and woman were in the front yard. The woman said she woke up to a smell of smoke.

When the fire department arrived, the kitchen was fully engulfed, and it quickly spread to all of the single-story home.

Nussle said the fire appears to have started in the kitchen, possibly in the area of the stove.

The $55,000 home was a total loss, Nussle said.

The man is an ambulance worker for MedStar Ambulance, which took him and the woman to the hospital.
