April local auto sales down 16.9 percent

The Mahoning Valley saw a nearly 17 percent drop in auto sales in April.
In total, there were 4,247 new- and used-auto sales in April 2016 compared with 5,033 sold in April 2015, according to data released Tuesday by the Greater Cleveland Automobile Dealers’ Association.
The figures derive from auto titles processed at county title departments by the final business day each month.
Greenwood Chevrolet of Austintown reported the most sales of 246, but the dealership was down by 15 sales from last year.
Taylor Kia of Boardman had the second-most new- and used-auto sales in the Valley with 197, a drop of 42 for the dealership.
Sweeney Chevrolet of Boardman came in third with 169 sales, a drop of 64 sales from last year.
Greenwood Chevrolet had the most new sales of 134 and the most used of 112.
Sweeney Chevrolet came in second with the most new sales of 116. Taylor Kia of Boardman followed with 114 sales of new vehicles.
On the used side, Taylor Kia followed Greenwood in sales with 83. Donnell Auto Group of Boardman came next with 77 used-vehicle sales.
The Chevrolet Silverado was the top new model in April with 110 sales. The Chevrolet Equinox followed with 102 sales and the Chevrolet Malibu came in third with 93 sales.
The Lordstown-built Chevrolet Cruze wasn’t too far behind with 92 new sales.
But the Cruze topped used sales with a total of 109, up from 83 used sales in April 2015.
The Malibu came in second with 60 used sales. The Ford Focus came in third with 58 used sales.
So far, vehicle sales in the Mahoning Valley are down. At this time last year, the Valley had 18,020 sales compared with 17,616 sales recorded at this time last year.
