C.H. Campbell’s secret “well-oiled machine” reveals superhero identities
CANFIELD
Students donned their capes to show lunch-lady appreciation and support.
Superhero Lunch Ladies Day is C.H. Campbell Elementary School’s version of School Lunch Hero Day.
School Lunch Hero Day is a nationwide celebration hosted by Jarrett J. Krosoczka, author and illustrator of a graphic novel series called “Lunch Lady.”
The Canfield Local School District serves more than 1,800 students daily in four buildings.
Terri Hutchison, food-service director, said the series represents the superheroes she finds in her staff every day.
“I was so happy to acknowledge them because if it wasn’t for these girls, where would we be?” she said. “Whatever I ask them to do, they do. And whatever the kids need them to do, they do.”
As part of the dedication food service workers have to the students they serve, Hutchison said her workers seem to have a way about them that connects them to students in need of lunch money or help in some way. They will then help them by way of counselors, parents or other means.
“We found out through these workers some of the kids that need food, help and more,” she said. “Our program just works. It really works.”
While eating kryptonite corn dogs, super-vision veggies and recharge milk, Ethan Remby and Sachin Nallapaneni, fourth-grade students, said they thought their lunch ladies are pretty awesome.
Sachin said he is always happy to see them every day, ready to serve him lunch.
“They know our orders so well,” Ethan added.
Hutchison said she couldn’t be more thankful for the team she has in the Canfield Local School District.
“I’ve always said it for the last 25 years, they are a well-oiled machine – of superheroes,” Hutchison said.
